Rudolf Martini, Würzburg, Germany, was the first speaker of this session and talked about opportunities for treatment of CMT diseases. At the moment, there is no cure for these genetic neuropathies. Studies (mouse and human) with many substances studied, such as ascorbic acid, progesterone antagonist, curcumin, neurotrophin 3, carried out without success.

he first paper that I would like to point out to our readers is “Use of a novel high-resolution magnetic resonance neurography protocol to detect abnormal dorsal root ganglia in Sjögren patients with neuropathic pain: case series of 10 patients and review of the Literature”, published in Medicine; May 2014; Vol. 93; Issue 3 ; p. 121-134.

The congress was really impressive and fantastic, the most attended neurology meeting that ever took place in Europe with almost 6,000 participants! There were a lot of interesting symposia, presentations, teaching courses, and focused workshops, and often it was hard to choose the one to attend, out of the many running at the same time.

First pictures from the Joint Congress of European Neurology

I was looking forward to this meeting, but it exceeded all my expectations. Excellent speakers, very relevant topics…. My two highlights were the “Year of the Brain 2014” i.e. the Plenary session and the Tournament in “basic neurology”, in which young neurologists presented their high quality research and competed with others for the Uschi Tschabitscher Prize.
