At the EAN Congress 2025 in Helsinki, the European Academy of Neurology awarded the title of Lifetime Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology (FEAN) to Joke Jaarsma, former President of European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) recognising her exceptional contributions to patient advocacy. She is the first patient representative to receive this distinction.
The award was presented during the Presidential Dinner on Friday, 19 June, in celebration of Joke’s tireless efforts to champion the needs of people living with neurological conditions. Her leadership has been instrumental in building strong, lasting bridges between the patient community and healthcare professionals across Europe.
In response to a request from eanNews, Elena Moro, President of the EAN, remarked, “Joke’s inspiring leadership in patient advocacy has transformed how we work together in neurology. She is deeply admired and respected by neurologists across Europe as well as everyone else in the brain community—not only for her vision and dedication, but for her ability to unite diverse voices in pursuit of better care and understanding”.
