Welcome to the December edition of the President’s Corner, our eanNews series, in which I answer your questions about the EAN and its various initiatives.
We received another great selection of questions to round off the year, including a nice mix of topical enquiries and an excellent personal question. Please see my answers below.
We began this series in January, so this edition completes our first year of the President’s Corner. To everyone who has submitted a question in 2025: thank you for your engagement! I hope my answers have useful or interesting to you as well as to all our readers. I look forward to many more questions in 2026.
If you would like a question answered, please keep an eye out for our upcoming posts inviting submissions for next month’s edition, or reach out anytime via email.
Best wishes,
Elena Moro, EAN President
Can I submit more than one abstract for EAN 2026, and is there a limit to how many can be accepted?
There is no limit to the number of abstracts you can submit for the EAN Congress. However, an individual presenter may only present a maximum of three accepted abstracts at the congress. If you are in the happy situation of having more than three abstracts accepted, then you will need to find an alternative presenter to take care of the extra presentations. Please note that each presenter is required to have their own active MyEAN User Account.
Which person in the history of neurology, or medicine in general, do you most admire?
This is a very difficult question, since there have been likely several outstanding men and women who have marked the history of neurology and the medical field. However, I particularly admire Rita Levi-Montalcini, an Italian neurologist who won the 1986 Nobel Prize of Medicine for her discovery of the Nerve Growth Factor in the 1950s. Her life is an example of passion, courage, hope, freedom, and equity.
If I join the EAN in December, will I only get one month of membership? Should I wait till January?
If you are not already an EAN member and you apply right now, your membership will be activated for the remainder of 2025, plus the whole of 2026. There is no need to wait until January. This counts for all individual membership categories.
For more information about EAN membership, including category types and membership benefits, please visit the ‘Join’ page of the EAN website, here: Join – ean.org
Which students have the best chance of getting accepted for the EAN student teaser fellowship?
The EAN offers fifteen Student Teaser Fellowships each year, and we always receive many applications. If you want your application to stand out, we recommend you have a close look at the ‘Useful tips’ and ‘FAQs’ sections on our website before applying, and make sure you focus on creating a strong motivation letter. Explain why a stay in another department would be useful for your career, and how it would help you to decide on neurology or a certain neurological subfield. Every application is reviewed and scored by at least two people, and the fifteen highest-ranked applicants will be selected. So, the students with the best chance of getting accepted are those who can convince the reviewers that they will benefit from the opportunity.
