We are pleased to announce that the EAN Regional Teaching Session (RTS) titled Unlocking Genetic Clues in Neurological Disorders will be held on 15 December 2025, from 09:30 to 12:30, during the Annual Meeting of the Turkish Neurological Society in Antalya, Türkiye.
This high-level scientific session will feature internationally recognised experts and will focus on the diagnostic and therapeutic dimensions of rare neurological diseases and neurogenetics.
The session will feature:
Rare Disorders in Turkey – Prof. Hacer Durmuş Tekçe (Türkiye)
This opening address will provide an overview of the landscape of rare neurological disorders in Türkiye, emphasising diagnostic challenges, genetic insights, and national strategies. It will also highlight the role of the Turkish Neurological Society and the importance of international collaboration with the EAN.
Rare Disorders in Europe: An Overview – Prof. Elena Moro (France)
This lecture will present the current state of rare neurological disorders across Europe, including advances in diagnostics, registries, and coordinated care. The role of the European Academy of Neurology in supporting education, research, and clinical collaboration will also be discussed.
The Lesson of Rare Neurologic Diseases to Clinical Neurologists and Neuroscientists and the Role of International and National Neurological Societies – Prof. Antonio Federico (Italy)
Rare neurological diseases offer critical insights into general neurology and neuroscience. This presentation will reflect on how these conditions inform pathophysiological understanding, therapeutic innovation, and the responsibility of neurological societies in promoting awareness and scientific advancement.
ALS: From Gene Discovery to Targeted Therapies – Prof. Leonard van den Berg (The Netherlands)
This talk will explore how genetic discoveries in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) have shaped the development of targeted therapies. Topics will include current biomarkers, therapeutic pipelines, and the impact of translational research in improving outcomes for patients with ALS.
Interactive Panel Discussion & Audience Q&A
Moderators: Prof. Elena Moro & Prof. Hacer Durmuş Tekçe
All speakers will join in a dynamic panel session designed to engage the audience. The discussion will focus on future directions in neurogenetics, emphasising translational research, clinical integration, and opportunities for international collaboration.
