The CoCoCare Programme is an initiative from the EAN Guideline Production Group (GPG), designed to train and empower 25 neurology trainees each year in the development and implementation of high-quality, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. These professionals complete a one-year curriculum that blends e-learning, plenary sessions, workshops, and self-study.
The EAN took a new approach for the 2024-2025 round which involved EAN Scientific and Coordinating Panels, who submitted real-world research questions in PICO format. The CoCoCare students could then choose to work on one of these or develop their own, resulting in a diverse and highly relevant range of guideline-related projects.
At the EAN Congress 2025 in Helsinki, the EAN celebrated the successful completion of the second CoCoCare cohort (2024–2025), with 23 neurology residents and early-career neurologists presenting their impressive projects at the Scientific Theatre and receiving certificates of completion. Congratulations to all graduates!
To ensure the sustainability of the EAN’s guideline efforts, the GPG continues to support CoCoCare alumni through follow-up opportunities: contributing to methodology teams for guideline development, reviewing and evaluating guidelines, and supporting guideline implementation.
As we celebrate the success of this cohort, we also welcomed a new class of CoCoCarists (2025–2026), who completed their e-learning phase ahead of the in-person kick-off workshop which took place in Helsinki on 20 June 2025. This workshop featured expert-led sessions on topics such as clinical guideline development, evidence grading, evidence-to-decision frameworks, patient-centred care, cost-conscious care, and implementation strategies.

With the GPG’s strong commitment and growing community of trained professionals, the EAN is taking significant steps to strengthen the foundation and future of neurological guideline development in Europe.
Congratulations once again to all CoCoCare graduates, and welcome to the next generation!
