In 2021, the EAN Student Task Force was established to promote student related EAN activities and the neurological option among the different medical branches for European students. Since then, the Task Force has executed many successful projects and activities supporting EAN Student Members.
The first ‘Neurology for undergraduate medical students’ online course took place in October 2025, offering a new unique learning opportunity for possible future neurologists who are currently medical students.
Following the proposal of the Secretary General, Antonio Toscano and with the fundamental support of Nathalie Nasr, EAN Education Committee Chair, the Student Task Force organised and launched a new four-module introduction course on general neurology to spark further interest in this fascinating field.
After careful consideration, the following topics were selected for the first edition of the course: dementia, epilepsy, stroke, and emergency neurology. Speakers were carefully selected by the EAN Scientific Panels Management Groups, coordinated by the Scientific Committee chair, Gereon Fink, and their valuable contribution in suggesting the most suitable experts for the selected topics was highly appreciated.
Shortly before the EAN Congress 2025, course registration opened to all EAN Student Members based in Europe and EAN Corresponding Institutional member countries. We were pleased to learn this event was rapidly fully booked, which was great proof of the interest in an activity like this.
The working group aimed to create interactive lectures including real-life cases, Q&As, discussions, and networking opportunities. After the lectures, all courses were evaluated by the participants with very positive results.
“I really learned a lot, especially since I am in my 5th year and have taken neurology and intro to neurosurgery”
“My interest in this field keeps growing and I’m grateful for the extra learning support”.
“I found the course very insightful, highly informative and well-structured. I especially appreciated how it covered practical solutions, current guidelines and real case presentations”
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to take part. It’s amazing there is such a project for medical students”

By sharing this short but successful story from this year, we are pleased to inform the medical students’ community that in October 2026, we hopefully will be back with new topics to propose a second edition of the course for more participants!
More information will be published in early spring 2026.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the EAN Headoffice at membership@ean.org and they will be happy to provide you with more details.
