Mentorship is a powerful tool for professional and personal development. To highlight its importance in the neurology community, the upcoming EAN Congress in Helsinki will again feature a dedicated Mentorship Workshop designed to raise awareness of the value of mentoring and to provide participants with practical insights into the mentoring experience. The Workshop is set up differently each year, so feel free to join even if you have already joined in the past.
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to:
- Connect and network with mentors, mentees and other interested participants
- Gain a brief introduction into the programme and insights into takeaways from 4 years of the programme
- Define expectations, identify challenges, and develop solutions in interactive group work
- Hear experiences from current mentor-mentee pairs
The EAN Mentorship Programme continues to inspire long-term connections and professional growth. One mentor who is with the programme since the beginning is Nils Erik Gilhus. He shares his experience in a short report:
“My three consecutive mentorship relationships in the EAN Mentorship Programme have been a real pleasure and were highly rewarding. Me as a Mentor and all my mentees feel that we have achieved important results together. The precise aims for the three mentorship relationships have differed, and such flexibility is a strength of the programme. Scientific achievements, internationalization, and adapting to a new country have been key aspects. During regular digital meetings I have experienced real cooperation, sometimes even felt that I actively took part in the daily work and life in a far-away, foreign country.
Another strength of this programme is that the mentees themselves are allowed to define their aims, their reasons for applying for a mentor. The mentor and mentee together are then able to set up an agenda for each meeting, and a progress plan for the year.
For me as a mentor the programme has combined all the pleasures of working together with a young colleague on a well-defined project and learning about neurology, medicine, and society in a foreign country. I am really grateful to my three excellent mentees, and also to EAN for organizing such a programme.”
Whether you’re curious about becoming a mentor or applying to be a mentee, or simply want to explore how mentorship can support your journey in neurology, we invite you to attend this workshop and become part of a growing and supportive community.
