Save the Date: Why do placebo and nocebo effects matter? – improving the education of healthcare professionals | 5 November 2025
The PANACEA Project is pleased to invite healthcare professionals, educators, and medical students to its Final Conference on 5 November 2025, focused on transforming how placebo and nocebo effects are taught and understood in clinical education.
Despite their well-documented impact on clinical outcomes, placebo and nocebo effects remain underrepresented in traditional medical training. Around 50% of healthcare professionals report lacking confidence in using these effects ethically and effectively in practice. PANACEA was created to address this educational gap.
This EU-funded Erasmus+ project brings together leading universities and organisations from across Europe to develop a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum. The aim is to equip current and future healthcare professionals with the knowledge and communication skills to responsibly harness placebo and nocebo effects in everyday clinical care.
The hybrid event will include:
- Interactive quiz to test your knowledge and challenge common myths.
- Overview of the shortcomings in current education on placebo and nocebo.
- Showcase of the PANACEA educational toolkit.
- Q&A sessions and discussion panels on opportunities and barriers to improving education
- Opportunities to connect with educators and curriculum developers from across Europe
