Italian Neurological Society celebrates its 50th congress in Bologna
November 6, 2019On October 12-15, the Italian society of neurology (SIN, Società Italiana di Neurologia) celebrated its 50th congress in Bologna. Bologna has the oldest Italian University, founded in 1088, and is the town of many outstanding Italian neuroscientists. Moreover, Bologna has been the nest of some of the major European schools in the field of epilepsy and sleep medicine. -

Report from European Congress of Neurorehabilitation 2019
November 5, 2019In this article, we present an overview of this year’s European Congress of Neurorehabilitation, organized in the beautiful city of Budapest between 9-12 October 2019, hosted by one of our closest partners - the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNR). The EFNR is an international organization dedicated to research, education, intellectual and scientific exchange, advocacy, and philanthropic activities in the field of neurorehabilitation medicine and related professional areas of expertise. -

92nd Congress of the German Neurological Society
November 5, 2019Between the 25th and 28th of September 2019, the German Neurological Society (deutsche Gesellschaft für Neurologie – DGN) held its annual congress at the International Congresscenter in Stuttgart, Germany. As one of the largest neurological gatherings in Europe it was attended by approximately 5,500 health professionals associated with Neurology. -
The annual WHO meeting of the mental health forum was held on the 14-15 October 2019. This is the first time that Neurology was invited to attend and present in two separate sessions. I represented the EAN and presented the case for global Neurosciences in the two sessions.

On 16 October, EAN participated in an event in the European Parliament organized by Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks-Europe (GAMIAN Europe). The event brought together the MEP Alliance for Mental Health, organizations and societies focused on brain and mental health as well as several policy makers from the EU institutions. This MEP Alliance is endorsed by 26 members of the European Parliament.

Globalisation has created convergence of individual countries’ health problems and, consequently, mutual dependence for generating solutions. This means that in today’s world, we can no longer consider health of particular countries or regions, such as European Union (EU), in isolation.

October 7, 2019As a follow-up to the survey on the renovation of the ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH E6) conducted in August, the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI) has launched a new open comment opportunity which enables specific comments to be collected. -
The "Central Asian Movement Disorders Course" was conducted in the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, on June 22-23, 2019. The venue was the conference room of Kyrgyz-Turkish Center named after Chingiz Aitmatov of the historic National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Alykul Osmonov. The two-day course was jointly organized by the Movement Disorders Society and Parkinson’s Disease Alliance - CIS, and the Clinical Hospital of the Administrative Department of Presidential and Government Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. Support was provided by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society Asian Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS) under the auspices of the Developing World Education Program (DWEP).

The European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA), together with European Brain Council (EBC) and European Academy of Neurology (EAN), has sent an open letter to EU leaders, making a strong case for increased prioritisation of neurological/brain health in EU policies and calling for concrete measures to be undertaken to counteract the increasing burden of brain disorders.
