The European Academy of Neurology has introduced a new feature for our congresses and I would like to explain the ideas behind. Congress participants expect to be exposed to many features during the congress of the EAN. This includes cutting edge science, exiting news about the causes of neurological diseases and related translational research, new talents in the field reporting their latest research and modern teaching covering the many aspects of the neurologists practice. One other item was lacking so far: They also want to see the giants of our field who have done and are still doing innovative research and are known to be the best teachers.
avid Vodušek (DV): The World Federation of Neurology’s structure comes close to that of the EAN as both societies bring together national neurological societies. Can you please illustrate to the Neuropenews readers how the WFN structures its work with the member societies?
Raad Shakir (RS): The WFN has grown rapidly in recent years and now represents 120 professional national societies in all regions of the world. When I ran for the office of WFN President, I did so on a platform of Global Involvement through Regional Empowerment.
As in the previous year, Neuropenews asked EAN committee members, panel chairs, speakers etc. which session one should not miss at the upcoming congress in Copenhagen 2016. Please find their answers below!
For March 2016 we have selected: Horne MA, Flemming KD, Su I-C, et al., and the Cerebral Cavernous Malformation Individual Patients Data Meta-analysis Collaborators. Clinical course of untreated cerebral cavernous malformations: a meta-analysis of individual patient data. Lancet Neurol 2016;15:166-173.
The incidental finding of cerebral cavernous malformation (CCMs) in brain MRIs is relatively common (1/650 neurologically asymptomatic people, a prevalence second only to cerebral aneurysm).
Since the establishments of the first multidisciplinary memory clinics, based in neurology in Denmark more than 20 years ago, neurologists have taken increasing interest in diagnostic evaluation and follow-up of patients with dementia.
After more than a decade from the natalizumab approval, most MS specialists consider this biological therapy as one of the most efficient drugs that we have nowadays to treat relapsing-remitting MS patients. However, the problem we have to face when we start to use natalizumab is the risk of the occurrence of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in some patients.
All e-learning activities are free-of-charge for EAN registered users.
Answer all questions correctly and you will receive one hour of CME.

It has been a great honor for me to be awarded with the EAN scientific fellowship 2015. Thanks to the EAN, I had the chance to spend one year at the Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders of the University College of London and to join the Movement Disorders Clinic under the supervision of Professor Kailash Bhatia.
Report from Tatiana Torgan from Russia visiting the Movement Disorders Unit, Neurology Department, San Pau Hospital, Barcelona, Spain under supervision of Dr Alexandre Gironell
In the recent months, the EAN have reorganized its Scientific Panels. This was a rather complex and time consuming procedure, starting with the European National Neurological Societies nominating its representatives for each panel, an approval of EAN individual members who asked to serve in the different Panels, through the call for applications for the Management Group (MG) chairmanship and membership, and ending with the elections, involving more than 1000 EAN Panel members.
