The purpose of EAN is to promote excellence in Neurology in Europe and among other topics the bylaws have detailed this ‘to increase the … standards of neurological services, to support neurological research and to be an organ speaking for neurology as the major medical specialty caring for patients with neurological disorders’. A very important structure of the Society to continuously fulfill this mission are the 31 scientific panels of EAN. These panels did exist already within the former Societies EFNS and ENS but they were organized differently. As they have received some reformation I would like to briefly outline their current function and why this reorganization was necessary.
As in the previous year, Neuropenews asked EAN committee members, panel chairs, speakers etc. which session one should not miss at the upcoming congress in Copenhagen 2016. Please find their answers below!
David Vodušek (DV): As president of PAUNS, can you please tell the Neuropenews readers of the organization’s history, its present activities and plans for the future?
Saeed Bohlega (SB): PAUNS was conceived during the World Congress of Neurology (WCN) meeting in Barcelona, Spain in 1973 but it was only in 22nd May 1975 that PAUNS was officially founded. Under the leadership of the late Dr. Ahmed El Banhawy as first President, PAUNS came into existence in Cairo with the combination of various neuroscience societies in the Arab World, including specialists from countries lacking such societies.

For February 2016 we have selected: Siegal DM, Curnutte JT, Connolly SJ, et al. Andexanet alfa for the reversal of factor Xa inhibitor activity. N Engl J Med 2015;33:2413-2424.
There is an increased use of direct factor Xa inhibitors (like apixaban, rivaroxaban, and edoxaban) to prevent stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation since these medications have several advantages compared to vitamin K antagonists.
Denmark has a 100-year history of research in multiple sclerosis (MS), but as everywhere, the number of published studies has grown almost exponentially during the last two decades.
