The new Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has drastically changed the world as we know it. Every aspect of our lives has been modified to adapt ourselves and to prevent the spread of this novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 279 722 confirmed cases have been reported worldwide with more than 72 616 deaths (as of 7 April 2020). Africa is the least affected region (10,260 confirmed cases and 492 deaths). However, this number may be underestimated and is continuing to rise relentlessly. Thus, Africa is facing the biggest challenge of the 21st century: making health as a priority. Scientific societies, national and international health authorities have to work together to strengthen the fight against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.

I would like to express my immense gratitude to the European Academy of Neurology for granting me a 12-month research training fellowship. This gave me the opportunity to join the Clinical Neuroimmunology Lab at the University of Basel, under the supervision of Prof. Derfuss. It has been a great honour for me to work in one of the leading multiple sclerosis research groups.

Latvia is a scenic country, situated on the shore of Baltic sea in Northern Europe, located between two other Baltic states: Estonia and Lithuania. The name Latvia comes from the ancient tribe called Latgalians who are one of four Indo-European Baltic ancestral tribes which inhabited the region within modern day Lativa. The country has a coastline of more than 500 km along the Baltic Sea, giving everybody the possibility to explore many white sand beaches all year round. More than 50% of the country is filled with precious “green gold” – forests – combined with gorgeous landscapes, rivers and lakes.

Since January 31st, Coronavirus has spread along all the Spanish territory; however, some regions are particularly compromised in terms of number of cases: Madrid, Catalonia, Basque Country and the two Castillian regions. The total number of confirmed cases is about to surpass Italy. We hope to be reaching the plateau of the curve, after all the implemented social distancing measures.
