President’s Page: The first congress of the European Academy of Neurology
July 1, 2015The First EAN congress took place in Berlin at the CityCube, June 20-23, 2015. 6400 participants from 106 countries were attending 8 Symposia, 25 Teaching courses, 23 Focused workshops, 5 Hands-on courses, 3 Interactive sessions, 5 Special Sessions and showed 1546 posters. Furthermore, 2 Scientific Satellite Symposia took place at the Charité, as well as 17 Industry Satellite Symposia. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. -
Elena Moro (EM): We are very grateful for all the work you did for the EAN news blog “Neuropenews”. It has become the most important tool of communication for our society. What is your message to us? Gian Luigi Lenzi (GLL): It is not good to dwell in the past as none of us want to be labelled as “old”. I think that it is now the right time to turn the page and open a new chapter for Neuropenews. I like to imagine Neuropenews like a house that is going to be remodelled. I am happy to have contributed to have built the foundation of this house and to see its further development. After its very first meeting in Istanbul in 2014, the Assembly of Delegates met for the second time in Berlin during the 1st Congress of the EAN. This assembly, which is the democratic body of the Academy, consists of 90 delegates, 45 representing national societies of neurology, and 45 representing full individual members.

Lumboperitoneal shunt surgery for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (SINPHONI-2): an open-label randomized trial. Lancet Neurology 2015;14:585-594. The decision to refer patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) for surgery can be challenging for the neurologist, especially due to the lack of high-level evidence supporting the beneficial use of CSF shunts. -
