The EAN Education Committee has reviewed 51 applications for the 2026 Research Fellowship Programme and we are happy to announce the winners below. Many of the applications received very high scores, and the committee is happy to see such great research projects.
We would like to encourage all neurologists who are still in their residency to apply for future fellowships and take advantage of this opportunity, not only for the financial support but for the opportunity to get to know experts, see how they work, and become part of the wider EAN networking community for your future career.
The recipients of the 2026 Research Fellowships are as follows (in alphabetical order):
Research Experience Fellowship 2026:
Barbora Deutschová from Czech Republic was selected for her project, Cortico-Subcortical Interactions in Epilepsy, which she will carry out at the Marseille Epilepsy Center, Timone Hospital, Aix-Marseille Hospital, France, under the supervision of Dr Francesca Pizzo.
Research Training Fellowship 2026:
Marie Louise Aicher from Switzerland was selected for her project, Identification of novel autoantibodies in patients with inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, which she will carry out at the Department of Neurology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, under the supervision of Prof. Romana Höftberger and Dr Simon Hametner.
Alice Dainelli from Italy was selected for her project, Unravelling brain molecular mechanisms in Rasmussen syndrome, which she will carry out at the Institut du Cerveau (ICM) – Paris Brain Institute, France, under the supervision of Dr Stéphanie Baulac.
Alberto De Lorenzo from Italywas selected for his project, Autoantibody Discovery in Autoimmune Neuropathies With Next Generation Protein-Arrays, which he will carry out at the Instituto de Investigación – Hospital de la Santa Creu y Sant Pau, Barcelona, Spain, under the supervision of Dr Luis Querol.
Valeria Pozzilli from Italy was selected for her project, Investigating the contribution of polygenic risk scores to cognitive impairment in multiple sclerosis, which she will carry out at the UCL Queen Square Insitute of Neurology, London, UK, under the supervision of Prof. Olga Ciccarelli.
Giuseppe Schirò from Italy was selected for his project, Exploring clinical, neuropathological and cerebrospinal fluid correlates of rim and peri-plaque area of chronic active lesions in multiple sclerosis: a post-mortem population study on brains from the UK MS Tissue Bank, which he will carry out at the Imperial College of London, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Brain Sciences, Division of Neuroscience, London, UK, under the supervision of Prof. Roberta Magliozzi.
Gabriele Vadi from Italy was selected for his project, The role of Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease on Non-Motor Symptoms and Neuropsychiatric Fluctuations, which he will carry out at the Université Grenoble Alpes – Unité des troubles du movement – Service de Neurologie, CHU de Grenoble, France, under the supervision of Prof. Elena Moro.

New applications for 2027 can be submitted from 1 June to 31 August 2026.
The Research Fellowship is supervised and reviewed by the EAN Education Committee together with topic-specific Scientific Panels.
