Welcome to the May 2026 edition of the President’s Corner, our eanNews series, in which I answer your questions about the EAN and its various initiatives.
With only a matter of weeks left until the 12th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology, it is no surprise that all questions this month are related to the congress.
Even closer is the cutoff date for EAN members’ discounts. I would like to remind you that you can still benefit from a significant saving on congress registration if your application for EAN Individual membership is approved by 31 May. Applications usually take around two weeks to be processed, so now is the time to apply join the EAN!
If you would like a question answered, please keep an eye out for our upcoming posts inviting submissions for next month’s edition, or reach out anytime via email.
Best wishes,
Elena Moro, EAN President
Aside from the parts you are involved in, which sessions at the congress are you most looking forward to?
Together with the Chair of the Programme Committee, I oversee the overall programme of the congress, as EAN President. To me, all sessions in Geneva are fantastic!
However, I have to confess that I have always loved the Opening Ceremony of any congress, thus particularly the one we will have on the evening of Saturday, 27 June.
I also want to highlight the awesome Managing challenges for women in neurology session that has been held for ten years at our congress, a really unique event on Sunday, 28 June in Room Oslo.
But I have to stop here, otherwise the list will be too long to read!
Can I resubmit the same abstract for late breaking abstract submission?
The aim of the Late-Breaking Abstract Submission window – which runs until Wednesday 27 May 2026, 23:59 CEST – is to bring the freshest research findings into our congress, involving study results that were either not yet known or not fully available at the time of the standard abstract submission. So, of course, these must be original submissions.
The successful abstracts will be used to assemble two sessions at the EAN Congress 2026, which will be among the most current and exciting in the programme.

What is the difference between a Hands-On Course and an eHands-On Course?
I am pleased to receive this question, because the eHands-On Courses introduced in 2024 have proved to be very innovative and very much appreciated, and the distinction from the classic Hands-On Courses is important. Where the traditional Hands-On Courses tend to focus on manual skills such as clinical assessment, specific examination methods, or interpreting medical imaging, the newer eHands-On Courses deal with online tools and interactive platforms that require the use of a computer. This is why we ask participants to ‘bring your own computer’ for these courses.
Both types of course are an excellent way to enhance your congress experience with some interactive learning. Find out more about the courses on offer here: EAN Congress 2026: Hands-On Courses & eHands-On Courses Open for Registration – eanNews. You can sign up for courses either during registration for the congress, or by upgrading your registration via your myEAN account.
