On 5 June 2026, the Kosovo Society of Neurology, in collaboration with the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), held a successful EAN Regional Teaching Day in Prishtina, Kosovo, as part of the Society’s annual Spring Conference.
The event marked a historic milestone as the first official EAN educational event ever held in Kosovo, bringing together neurologists, residents, and healthcare professionals from Kosovo and the wider region for a full day of high-level scientific exchange and education.
The programme focused on contemporary and clinically relevant topics in neurology, including sleep disorders, epilepsy, and movement disorders, with internationally recognised faculty members delivering interactive lectures and case-based discussions throughout the day.
Prof. Claudio L. A. Bassetti from Switzerland delivered comprehensive sessions addressing the relationship between sleep disorders and neurological diseases, as well as practical approaches to recognising and diagnosing sleep disorders in neurological practice. His lectures highlighted the growing importance of sleep medicine within neurology and stimulated significant interest among participants, particularly young neurologists and trainees.
Prof. Barbara Tettenborn from Switzerland focused on practical aspects of epileptology, discussing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to seizures and epilepsy, alongside interactive case-based discussions on the management of first seizures in clinical practice. Her sessions were highly appreciated for their practical orientation and clinical relevance.
Prof. Yildiz Degirmenci from Türkiye presented current perspectives in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, with particular focus on modern therapeutic strategies, proactive approaches to patient care, and emerging developments in Parkinson’s disease management.

An important highlight of the conference was the virtual address delivered by EAN President Prof. Elena Moro, who spoke about the Brain Health Mission and the importance of strengthening brain health awareness, advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration across Europe. Her participation represented a meaningful moment for the neurological community in Kosovo and strongly resonated with the broader vision of advancing neurological care and prevention strategies in the region.
Kosovo has shown a strong commitment to the Brain Health Mission, with four EAN Brain Health Ambassadors actively contributing to the promotion of brain health awareness and neurological advocacy nationally and regionally. The initiative has become an important platform for fostering collaboration, education, and long-term strategic development in neurology across the region.
A dedicated session organised by the EAN Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) introduced opportunities for education, grants, fellowships, and international engagement available to neurologists in training across Europe, further encouraging the involvement of young neurologists from Kosovo and the region within the EAN community.
The Regional Teaching Day was attended by neurologists, residents, medical doctors, and medical students from Kosovo and neighbouring countries. Participants particularly appreciated the opportunity to interact directly with internationally renowned experts and to discuss practical clinical challenges relevant to everyday neurological practice in the region.
Beyond the scientific programme, the event also served as an important platform for strengthening international collaboration and fostering closer connections between the neurological community in Kosovo and the broader European neurological network. The warm and collegial atmosphere throughout the meeting reflected the strong commitment of the Kosovo Society of Neurology to advancing neurological education and regional cooperation.
The Kosovo Society of Neurology expresses its sincere gratitude to the European Academy of Neurology for its support, trust, and collaboration in making this important educational initiative possible. The successful organisation of the first EAN Regional Teaching Day in Kosovo represents an important step toward further academic cooperation and future educational activities in the region.
