Finland, officially the Republic of Finland (in Finnish: Suomi), is the northernmost and the most sparsely populated country in the European Union. By size, it is the fifth-largest country in Western Europe with its 338,440 km² of land, and with a population of 5.5 million (16 persons/km²). Politically, Finland has been a parliamentary democracy since its independence 1917, after having been a grand duchy of Russian empire for 108 years and prior to that a part of Sweden for 600 years.

Paper of the month: Aspirin efficacy in secondary prevention of early ischaemic cerebrovascular events
July 1, 2016For July 2016 we have selected: Effects of aspirin on risk and severity of early recurrent stroke after transient ischaemic attack and ischaemic stroke: time-course analysis of randomized trials. Rothwell PM, Algra A, Chen Z, Diener H-C, Norrving B, Mehta Z. Lancet Neurol 2016 May 18. doi: 10.1016/S0140-6736(16)30468-8. Whereas there is robust evidence encouraging the use of aspirin for long-term secondary prevention after transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or ischaemic stroke, data supporting aspirin treatment to reduce early recurrence of ischæmic events is weak. Moreover, even less information is available concerning the early aspirin effects on risk or severity recurrence after minor strokes. -

May 4, 2016Animal rights groups deny that animal research advances the study and treatment of human disease. A common tactic is to cite a body of literature (mostly anecdotally) purporting to document scientifically the uselessness of animal models, the suffering inflicted on… Continue Reading -
V: The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) structure is quite different from the EAN one, as it works with national ILAE chapters worldwide. Can you please illustrate to the EANpages readers how do the ILAE structures work with these national chapters? And how is the relationship between ILAE-CEA and ILAE? ILAE comprises the national epilepsy societies (chapters). There are six regional commissions within ILAE and the Commission on European Affairs (CEA) is the largest, with 46 chapters belonging to the CEA.
