The EAN Communication Committee is inviting applications for the positions of EAN Digital Communications Editor and EAN Deputy Digital Communications Editor.
The successful candidates will help guide the EAN’s digital content across ean.org, eanNews, newsletters, and social media, ensuring that communications are accurate, evidence-based, engaging, and aligned with the EAN’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. They will work closely with the EAN Communications Committee, Communications Department, and EAN leadership.
About the Positions
The EAN’s digital platforms inform, educate, and connect neurologists, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, patients, and the wider public. They also showcase the EAN’s scientific, educational, advocacy, and organisational activities and strengthen awareness of the academy’s work among both internal and external audiences.
EAN Digital Communications Editor
The Digital Communications Editor will provide strategic editorial direction for the EAN’s digital communication platforms. Key responsibilities include:
- Helping oversee the EAN’s digital communication channels and activities.
- Advising on editorial standards, content priorities, and communication opportunities.
- Ensuring that content is accurate, evidence-based, consistent, and aligned with EAN priorities.
- Proposing approaches to increase the visibility of different EAN areas and topics.
- Contributing to editorial planning and recommending topics, contributors, and feature opportunities.
- Helping showcase EAN activities, educational initiatives, scientific advances, advocacy work, and member achievements.
- Encouraging contributions and diverse perspectives from across the neurological community.
- Reporting to the Communications Committee Chair and at least once annually to the EAN Board during the EAN Congress.
EAN Deputy Digital Communications Editor
The Deputy Digital Communications Editor will work closely with and support the Digital Communications Editor. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting editorial planning, quality assurance, and the identification of communication priorities.
- Contributing to content development and stakeholder engagement.
- Helping maintain consistency across the EAN’s communication channels.
- Proposing approaches to improve the visibility of different EAN topics and activities.
- Acting on behalf of the Digital Communications Editor when required.
- Supporting continuity, coordination, and knowledge transfer during periods of absence or transition.
Who Should Apply?
The EAN welcomes applications from EAN members who:
- Have a strong understanding of neurology, brain health, and the neurological community.
- Have experience in scientific, medical, educational, or professional communications.
- Have written, reviewed, or edited content for professional audiences.
- Possess strong editorial, communication, and content-review skills.
- Can assess content for accuracy, quality, relevance, and strategic alignment.
- Are collaborative, reliable, diplomatic, proactive, and detail-oriented.
- Have a strong commitment to the EAN’s mission and to high-quality professional communication.
- Are EAN members or are willing to become members.
Active involvement in the EAN or related professional organisations is desirable. Experience with websites, newsletters, social media, or other digital communication channels is an advantage.
Term and Time Commitment
Both appointments have an initial term of two years, with the possibility of extension for one additional two-year term.
The expected commitment is approximately two to four hours per week on average, although this may vary according to editorial priorities, campaigns, strategic initiatives, and the annual communications calendar. Participation is also expected in:
- One in-person Communications Committee meeting in Vienna.
- Nine monthly online meetings of approximately one hour.
- One in-person meeting during the four-day EAN Congress.
- Content-related coordination during the EAN Congress.
The appointments do not carry financial remuneration.
