The European Academy of Neurology is committed to strengthening advocacy skills among neurologists through its annual Advocacy Training programme.
The 2025 programme will enable 50 neurologists to enhance their ability to advocate with and for their patients at both local and national levels. It is a free, online training programme for all EAN members, organised into four modules from March to June 2025. Over four monthly sessions, led by top experts and EAN board members, participants will develop their communication skills and use effective tools to convey their messages to various stakeholders, including politicians, patient organisations, the public, and the media.
The training is designed to equip neurologists with advocacy skills often absent from traditional medical training and empower them to support their national neurological societies in meeting WHO iGAP targets. The presidents of the national neurological societies, as well as the Brain Health Mission strategic partners are invited to nominate two neurologists from each country to participate in the training programme. By the end of this programme, participants will receive an ‘Ambassador of Brain Health’ certificate, recognising their enhanced expertise and commitment.
The 2024 course had over 50 neurologists from 27 countries, and for 2025, EAN has added a dedicated module on collaborating with patient organisations. Over time, this programme will build an active network of skilled neurologists across Europe who can drive meaningful change in neurology. Equipped to influence policymakers, they will advocate for improved care pathways, advanced treatments, and increased investment in neurology research, strengthening brain health for future generations.
