Here we begin a new series of interviews with patient representatives on various EAN Scientific Panels, discussing their roles within those panels and how they and patient organisations can support each other.
Organisations that represent the interests of patients are crucial partners for the EAN. As the EAN is geared towards supporting neurologists, with the aim of improving the quality of care they can provide, patients are ultimately affected by everything we do. It is therefore essential that patients’ interests, perspectives and experience are represented within the EAN itself, which is why senior figures from patient representative groups are invited to join EAN Scientific Panels.
EAN Scientific Panels are often referred to as the academy’s scientific backbone. A total of 28 panels cover different subspecialty areas of neurology, coordinating clinical research, disseminating good practice, assisting the EAN Programme Committee, producing guidelines and much more.
For our first interview in the series, eanNews Editor, Benedetta Bodini, spoke to Amelia Hursey, Strategic Director at Parkinson’s Europe, about her involvement with the EAN Scientific Panel on Movement Disorders. Watch the interview above or on the EAN Vimeo channel.
