This year, the hospital visit of the Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) of the European Academy of Neurology during the EAN congress was on Monday 18th June 2018. Sixty-seven residents and research fellows from 16 different countries mainly around Europe but also including countries from Africa went to the Hospital de Santa Maria which is one of the university hospitals of Lisbon.

Neurology 2018. doi:10.1212/WNL.0000000000005816. Impulse control disorders (ICDs) are frequent in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients, and can have relevant consequences on social life. Whereas the association between treatment with dopamine agonists (DA) and the onset of ICDs is well known, there is controversy about the relationship with dose and duration of DA therapy. -
The roots of clinical neurology can be traced back to Germany. With his ”Lehrbuch der Nervenkrankheiten des Menschen“ (textbook of human nervous diseases) 1840, Moritz Heinrich Romberg (1795 – 1873) established the foundation of clinical neurology as we know it today. His work was the first and for decades the only systematic representation of neurological diseases in Europe and America, bringing him international fame and esteem.

European Association of Nuclear Medicine and European Academy of Neurology recommendations for the use of brain 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in neurodegenerative cognitive impairment and dementia: Delphi consensus
July 10, 2018Despite its large use, recommendations for the use of brain F-18 FDG-PET in clinical practice were still lacking. The European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) promoted a concerted action with 7 specialists from the two Societies and a group of facilitators in order to make the point on this issue. Extensive literature review and analysis of available data led, together with expert opinion (Delphi consensus), to deliver these recommendations that cover practically all the main brain neurodegenerative conditions causing cognitive impairment. -
