"Challenges for women in neurology"

Aligning with EAN's priorities for the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in neurology, the scope of this networking session was to offer practical advice regarding the challenges that women may face in their clinical and academic careers by bringing together female neurologists from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The 8th edition of Challenges for women in Neurology took place in Vienna during EAN 2022. Prof. Elena Moro and Dr. Antonella Macerollo participants to this networking event, which has been a regular feature since the first EAN Congress in 2015.

“Challenges for Women in Neurology” has been an amazing session centred on the challenges that women have to face in their careers as neurologists and researchers. The session was covered with three excellent and touching talks by Professors of Neurology and was moderated by Prof. Elena Moro and Dr. Antonella Macerollo.

Prof. Anne Hege Aamodt discussed the perspective of challenges in Neurology in Norway. She is the President of the Norwegian Neurological Association and Consultant at the Department of Neurology, Oslo University Hospital. She has 2 children. She highlighted the importance to organize some specific neurology rota during the residency for female colleagues.

Top neurologists gathered to discuss challenges for women in neurology in a dedicated session chaired by President Elect Elena Moro on the second day of EAN 2023.

At EAN 2023, several sessions are devoted to the impact of sex and gender on neurological disorders, and the lives and opportunities of clinicians and researchers.

EAN President, Paul Boon, on the forthcoming Brain Health Summit, EAN advocacy activities, the recent national societies forum, and more.

During the EAN conference in Amsterdam in June 2017, the symposium on "Challenges for Women in Neurology" had 2 out of 3 invited speakers address aspects African Neurology (Dekker from Tanzania; Charway-Felli from Ghana). That is not a coincidence, as this region has seen significant developments in very recent years.
