The Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and the University Medical Centre of Lausanne (CHUV) invite applications for the position of
Head of Neurology Service
within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences
The Department of Clinical Neurosciences includes three services: Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation including Neuropsychology. The Neurology Service is the largest with 12 clinical consultants and a full complement of junior staff, nurses, physiotherapists, and speech therapists. It is home to an integrated clinical and research centre in neurodegeneration (the Leenaards Memory Clinic, run in collaboration with the Services of Psychiatry of Advanced Age and of Geriatrics), a neuroimaging research laboratory with a Siemens 3T PRISMA magnet, an integrated basic and clinical neuroinflammation research group, a comprehensive cerebrovascular disease service with its associated translational laboratory, a movement disorders group that works with a deep brain stimulation unit in neurosurgery, an epilepsy unit, a neurogenetics clinic, a unit for diseases of the peripheral nervous system and modern TMS facilities. There are many interactions with the other department’s services through a transverse departmental research centre that includes a translational molecular and cellular therapeutics research laboratory and an integrated clinical neurorehabilitation pathway with a mobile hospital-based acute neurorehabilitation unit.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the organisation of all the clinical and teaching activities in neurology and for promoting, with the head of department, collaborative research within the department, the CHUV and outside. She/he will have the necessary collaborative qualities for working with the other two services, the research centre and the Leenaards Memory Clinic as an integrated department. She/he will conduct high-level research and also provide pregraduate, postgraduate and research teaching in neurology.
Candidates should have a profile matching the following:
• Have a Swiss Medical Association (FMH) specialty degree or equivalent training
• Have wide clinical experience in neurological care (general neurological care and a neurological specialty).
• Have experience in conducting independent research supported by external funding.
• Be able to initiate clinical research projects and programmes capable of attracting external funding.
• Show aptitude in the fields of organization, interdisciplinary collaboration and networking, as well as in administrative and human resource management.
• Have a good knowledge of French or the ability to acquire it quickly.
