Hands-On Course 10: EAN/IFCN-EMEAC: The role of EEG to guide diagnosis and treatment in different clinical scenarios

The EAN is excited to be offering one special Hands-On Course at EAN 2024 free of charge! Hands-On Courses are traditionally paid for separately during the congress registration process, but we are making this one available to onsite participants on a first-come-first-served basis for no extra fee.
Organised in collaboration with the EAN Clinical Neurophysiology panel and the EMEA chapter of the IFCN this onsite-only Hands-On Course presents three scenarios where EEG is either crucial or highly valuable for plotting an optimal treatment strategy. The three scenarios are:
- Evaluating a patient after the first seizure.
Stefano Meletti, Italy - Diagnosing non-convulsive status epilepticus in a patient with altered mental status.
Markus Leitinger, Austria - Epilepsy and epileptiform activity in patients with dementia.
Anita Kamondi, Hungary
This course is a pilot during the 10th EAN Congress in Helsinki for using an interactive web platform for EEG evaluation. Course participants will have access to the EEG from selected patient cases for a limited time both before and after the course. This will allow participants not only to prepare for the cases beforehand, but also to return to them afterwards and see if their impression of the EEG has changed.
It is recommended that participants bring their own personal laptops* so they can also access the application during the course. Separate instructions on how to access and use the online application will be provided onsite.
Depending on the course feedback, use of this interactive platform may be extended to other diagnostic modalities, such as radiological imaging and pathology.
The source code for the online application EpiCurrents is licensed under the Apache-2.0 license, which allows for free non-commercial and commercial use. Anyone willing to contribute to the development of the project is free to do so by committing additions or alterations to the source code repository.
