EAN President, Prof. Elena Moro, and EUNOS President, Prof. Konrad Weber are pleased to announce that the EAN and the European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (EUNOS) have signed a memorandum of understanding, joining forces to promote optimal collaboration between the two societies in Europe.
EUNOS is the major society representing and promoting clinical neuro-ophthalmology in Europe. Its mission is to foster cooperation and communication among clinical neuro-ophthalmologists and visual scientists within Europe and beyond, to support the development of this specialty through training standards and educational initiatives, and to promote clinical research in neuro-ophthalmology. Every two years, EUNOS holds a scientific conference, alternating with a teaching course.
Among the main objectives of this collaboration are enhancing the availability and quality of educational and scientific activities and resources in neuro-ophthalmology, as well as attracting and nurturing emerging talent.
The Co-Chairs of the EAN Scientific Panel on Neuro-Ophthalmology and Neuro-Otology, Dr Barry M. Seemungal and Prof. Alexander Tarnutzer, welcomed the new memorandum of understanding, stating: “This collaboration with EUNOS represents an important opportunity to strengthen education, research, and professional exchange in neuro-ophthalmology across Europe. By working together, we can better support clinicians and scientists, promote high standards of patient care, and inspire the next generation of specialists in the field”.
These goals will be accomplished through close collaboration between both societies, including the participation of a representative of EUNOS on the Management Group of the EAN Scientific Panel on Neuro-Ophthalmology and Neuro-otology, as well as by including an EAN representative on the EUNOS Council. In addition, both societies will engage in advocacy activities at the EU level in Brussels to promote high-quality patient management across Europe as well as to advocate for research resources.
We look forward to a fruitful collaboration.
