Neurology is evolving rapidly, driven by breakthroughs in technology, genetics, diagnostics, and treatment. At the same time, Europe is facing a growing burden of neurological disorders due to aging populations, rising healthcare pressures, and a need for increasing the neurological workforce. Combined with the broader political, economic, and social challenges across the continent, it has become clear that neurology must become more agile, collaborative, and resilient.
To address these needs, the European Academy of Neurology has launched the Enhancing Neurology project—a major strategic initiative dedicated to identifying and shaping the top priorities for neurology in Europe over the next decade. Developed together with all European national neurological societies, the project focuses on seven key areas, including:
- Brain Health Strategy & Governance
- Stroke and Vascular Disorders
- Workforce, Training & Professional Development
- Research & Innovation
- Care Pathways & Service Organization
- Neurodegenerative Diseases
- Awareness & Advocacy
As part of this effort, the EAN is organising an in-person event on Enhancing Neurology in Brussels on March 17. Presidents and Board representatives of national and corresponding societies will come together to discuss key findings, align on shared priorities, and lay the groundwork for improved neurological care, education, and research across Europe and beyond. The event is an important step toward a coordinated European strategy and a forthcoming publication outlining common priorities.
Below, you can watch a video interview with EAN President Elena Moro, who shares insights about the Enhancing Neurology project and the goals of the upcoming Brussels meeting. She is interviewed by Matilde Leonardi, Chair of the EAN Communication Committee.
