At the first EAN Congress, held in Berlin in June 2015, more than 3000 participants attended the 25 Teaching Courses and 5 Hands-on courses:

une 2015 is coming closer and the stage for the first congress will open on Saturday, the 20th. We expect more than 6000 participants from all over Europe and the world to come to the CityCube in Berlin, the brand new Berlin congress center, the venue of the congress.

Gian Luigi Lenzi (GLL): As Chair of the Teaching Course Sub-Committee of the EAN, can you illustrate the role you give to EAN within the community of European neurologists? Theodor Landis (TL): EAN, the fusion of the two major European neurological societies, should become the home for neurology and neurology related specialities. It should combine the strongholds and particularities of both previous societies in a harmonious way and as such that it appeals to the broad majority of neurologists all over Europe.

The neurological examination has grown with our profession over the past 150 years. Neither the examination as a whole nor its individual parts have been subjected to the sort of rigorous evaluation which would command an instant Level A recommendation from an EFNS guideline panel. Nevertheless as a Good Practice Point the examination commands the leading position in the list of neurological investigations. Last year Johnston and Hauser, editors of the Annals of Neurology (volume 70, A10), called for research into the value of the different aspects of the “ethereal” neurological examination. The call was hotly debated in subsequent correspondence as being either overdue on the one hand or unnecessary and inappropriate on the other.
