On 2 October, 2021, the Council of Delegates of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) elected Prof. Wolfgang Grisold to be the next WFN President. He will begin a four-year term on 1 January, 2022.
Grisold, from Vienna, Austria, is a long-standing member and supporter of the EAN, currently sitting on the EAN Scientific Panel on Neuro-oncology, as well as the Gender & Diversity Taskforce. He was also the very first president of the Austrian Society of Neurology, elected in 2000.
“I am extraordinarily pleased to be elected the first Austrian president of the World Federation of Neurology,” Grisold told his national society. “During my presidency, I aim to put a particular emphasis on communication, education and internal improvements.”
In a wide-ranging interview with the WFN, the new president expressed his hope of increasing the number of members in Africa and other continents where WFN representation is lower. He also acknowledged the challenges presented by current global circumstances but noted that neurology is finding ways to move forward despite—and even because of—the crisis.
The EAN Board offers warmest congratulations to Prof. Grisold on his election and looks forward to strengthening the already close relationship between our two organisations.
