Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained neuroanatomist, bestselling author of My Stroke of Insight, and a highly influential voice in neuroscience, delivered a fascinating plenary lecture at the European Congress of Radiology, held in Vienna, Austria, in early March 2026.
The lecture, titled ‘Whole Brain Living: How the Brain Creates Our Perception of Reality’ mixes science and spirituality, exploring how different neural systems shape the way we experience the world.
Drawing on both neuroscience and her personal experience of stroke and recovery, she demonstrates how our perception of reality is constructed moment by moment, and how greater awareness of the brain’s architecture can empower us to respond with more clarity, resilience, and balance.
Bolte Taylor’s work focusing on neuroplasticity, recovery from brain trauma, and the science of consciousness, has achieved a worldwide audience through her writing and widely viewed 2008 TED Talk.
