The #BrainLifeGoals campaign is an initiative of the European Federation of Neurological Associations that aims to raise awareness of the impact of neurological disorders.

It was the third time our Department in Lviv supervised a Regional Teaching Course (RTC), funded by the EAN. The RTC took place from 16-18 May, 2019.

The first ever Neuromuscular Summer Course held in Budapest at Semmelweis University and endorsed by the EAN on May 29-30  2019 was a great success.

The 5th EAN Congress held in Oslo from June 29 to July 2 is now over and it’s time to look back. The Congress was a great success for EAN and for us in the local organising committee in Norway. Number of participants was the highest ever with 6919 registered delegates, and the number of submitted abstracts was all-time high at 2250. Number of applications for the tournament for young investigators was up about 40% for basic and more than 20% for clinical research. These figures illustrate the high and rapidly increasing activity in our society. At the same time, EAN definitely managed to make its mark on the city of Oslo with 24 EAN banners on both sides of Karl Johan, the main street of the city.

Our cities are well known for the arts, their history , design and fashion, quality of life, and food. The Mediterranean diet was postulated to be protective against neurodegenerative diseases by Ancel Benjamin Keys (1904 - 2004), a famous American physiologist who decided to live in the Cilento, a beautiful Southern Italian area,  and follow the diet himself. Finally, Italian cities are renowned for the human relationships of their inhabitants.

Successful collaboration between the EAN and the International Neuro-urology Society (INUS) at the 7th annual International Neuro-urology Meeting in Zurich. The 7th International Neuro-urology Meeting was held in January 2019 and for the first time, a dedicated Neurosciences workshop was held in collaboration with the EAN. The half-day workshop on Thursday 24 January 2019 began with imaging research and our understanding of the neural control of the lower urinary tract, and included topics such as a review of the neural networks responsible for lower urinary tract control, potential brain imaging biomarkers to evaluate therapeutic interventions for LUT dysfunction and Neuroimaging of functional recovery in SCI.

Migraine is the number one cause of disability affecting people under the age of fifty years  ( the group with the highest contribution to workforce worldwide) making one of the highest negative economic impacts globally(1).  According to the latest analysis from the GBD study, almost 3 billion people had a headache disorder in 2016: 1.89 billion had a diagnosis of tension-type headache, and 1.04 billion had a diagnosis of migraine(2). Migraine was responsible for 45.12 million years of life lived with disability (YLD), with a peak in prevalence in women between 15 and 49 years(3). One in seven suffer from this disabling, least respected, worst managed, least recognised complex brain disorder worldwide(5).
