The joint special session of the corresponding members to EAN and AFAN was dedicated to “Intractable epilepsies”. The session was chaired by Prof. Jean-Michel Vallat (Limoges, France) and Prof. Erich Schmutzhard (Innsbruck, Austria).

Professor Schneider spoke about metabolic movement disorders using a treatment-based approach, with Wilson’s disease, PKAN, GLUT1-spectrum disorders, Gaucher and GBA-associated Parkinson’s disease as examples.

Biomarkers in degenerative dementia: news and views from the European Dementia with Lewy Body (DLB) Consortium This symposium was co-chaired by Flavio Nobilli, from Genova, and Dag Aarsland, from London.

In this session, excellent speakers reviewed the past, present and future of headache treatment, starting from headache pathophysiology and explaining where do the different therapies act specifically.

Under the high patronage of C. Tassorelli (Pavia, Italy) and S. Evers (Münster, Germany), acting as speakers and chairpersons, this symposium focused on a rather uncomfortable topic – unmet needs in the management of migraine. The session began with C. Tassorelli’s presentation on Refractory Migraine Attacks.

Congress delegates flocked to the main auditorium last night to witness the official opening of the fifth congress of the European Academy of Neurology.

Norwegian team takes on rest of world in exciting battle of the brains! The BrainChallenge took place today at EAN 2019, for the second time following the success of its introduction in Lisbon at last year’s congress.  It proved to be even more popular the second-time round, and every bit as much fun.  The tension and excitement could be felt in the room as the local team from Norway had to face a formidable international team made up of delegates from several countries.
