It was a pleasure for me to represent the EAN at the 1st EBM meeting in held in Paris (La Salpétrière Hospital) on May 23, 2017. The objective of the EBM project is to preserve and to promote collections of archives related to the History of the various disciplines concerned by brain science (not only neurology, but mostly).

European Neurology has lost one of its great pioneers: Franz Gerstenbrand, emeritus Professor of Neurology at Innsbruck University, Past President of the EFNS and Honorary Member of the EAN passed away on June 30, 2017 at the age of 92. -

Prof. Günther Deuschl, President of the EAN and Prof. Meir Bialer, Chair of the ILAE-CEA are pleased to announce that: EAN has joined International League against Epilepsy – Commission on European Affairs (ILAE-CEA) to promote optimal management of Epilepsy in Europe. ILAE-CEA The Commission on European Affairs (CEA) is elected by the European ILAE Chapters; its goal is to stimulate and co-ordinate all activities related to epilepsy and epileptology across Europe, in compliance with ILAE directives. CEA is responsible for organising the official regional ILAE Congress (European Congress of Epileptology).

EANO is Europe’s multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology organisation representing all medical and scientific disciplines involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tumours of the central nervous system (CNS). EANO is dedicated to promote advances in Neuro-Oncology through innovative research and concerted education and training. -
We welcome Prof. Vodušek in his new role as chairman of the European Affairs sub-Committee (EAsC). He is already the extremely successful chair of EAN’s Liaison Committee and will in future also take care of the EAN-projects in Brussels. We are more than happy to have him also in this new position and thank him for his engagement. -

The EAN has currently only 8 honorary members, the 6 members of the transition task force (Claudio Bassetti, Jacques De Reuck, José Ferro, Detlef Kömpf, Gustave Moonen, and Gunhild Waldemar), and the founding presidents of the two mother societies (Franz Gerstenbrand and the late Peter K. Thomas).
